What's The Deal With Love? (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) What's the deal with love? Can we have enough? People all the time climb the highest climb Always looking to find love Love is like a tease, a beautiful disease Seeking people out, knocking us about And we worry to find love The darkest hour happens when you're all alone You wish you had somebody to help you along And where is love this minute, this moment of pain? Love is a wicked refrain What's the deal with love? Can we have enough? People all the time climb the highest climb Always looking to find love Always looking, always looking Always looking to find L - O - V - E love!!!

Happens Every Time (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) It happens every time you say goodbye to me Just about when I concede you've gone away Running, crying, hypnotizing seems to be your game Look what you became It happens every time I try to get away Somewhere along the line I find you're back again Running, crying, hypnotizing seems to be your game Look what you became I need to get on, I need to get out And try to work out what it's all about I need to get on I need to go out and find me someone It happens every time you say goodbye to me

Love In Laureltide Green (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) There's the corner where the lovers go to converse or/and to akimbo In the dark when all the lights go down Down the road and to the left of me is the church where couples come to be Man and wife then dog and family, oh Love in Laureltide Green Those from everywhere come to find a dream Love in Laureltide Green People everywhere come to make the scene If you look there's some who try to be different Because they subscribe to the other side with those who like it alone There's freaks about all around Then there are those who have found The sting of the Cupid-sent arrow I'll see you there in the Green And maybe if you are keen We two can then find a place in between Love in Laureltide Green Those from everywhere come to find a dream Love in Laureltide Green People everywhere come to make the scene Laureltide is where I want to be If you visit I will guarantee you will find someone to follow you home Love in Laureltide Green Those from everywhere come to find a dream Love in Laureltide Green People everywhere come to make the scene

SEARCHING FOR HEATHER DEAN (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) Well walk away, I'll have another round And ponder long, and try another day I saw you close, I saw you far away And then you're gone Whatever, anyway I'm going home, I throw a stone In the direction of the park you roam It rained today, I hung around the park I shamed myself and now it's getting dark I'm going home, I throw a stone In the direction of the park you roam There you are I'm going home, I throw a stone I'm going home, I throw a stone In the direction of the park you roam
5.
Into The Rain (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) What do you say? Where will you go? Drop me a line to let me know Into the rain Into the rain Out in the rain Give me a sign Send me a word, When you are then free as a bird Into the rain Into the rain Out in the rain I'll be waiting, contemplating While you're wasting time In your search for nothing better Look for something more What do you say? Where will you go? Drop me a line to let me know Into the rain Into the rain Out of the rain

In My Dream 03:39
In My Dream (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) Once upon a moon aboard a silvery balloon became a woman singing sonnets from her bed And before my eyes she took a task to eulogize another lover who was better than her last In my dream In my dream A very long ago and I was there so I should know believed a girl to be a queen among the rest Never on the earth did she revere to all its worth and like a peasant she remained at second best In my dream In my dream In my dream were all the answers to my dreams Don't wake me up No I looked into a room there was a bride without a groom without a party or a gown without a maid Invitations read and I remember what it said about nobody were to aid the masquerade In my dream In my dream In my dream In my dream In my dream were all the answers to my dreams Don't wake me up No

Love Me, Love (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) Love me, love me, love me, love me, love No more hiding No more secretive games that people play Just come out and say you love me Love me, love me, love me, love me, love Everybody thinks love is a thing that delivers joy and comforting Then the tide goes bad Everyone is sad What happened? Love me, love me, love me, love me, love What do we say when it goes? And where it goes no one knows Will it return? And if it does are we happy? Are we happy? Love me, love me, love me, love me, love Love me, love me, love me, love me, love Love me, love me, love me, love me, love Love me, love me, love me, love me, love Love me, love me, love me, love me Love me, love

Worry No 03:01
Worry No (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) When you're down and low When the day is blue When your heart has gone too deep Deep into the night When the dark is cold When the cold refuses to go Worry, worry, worry, no Worry, worry, worry, no Worry when When you've not a friend Otherwise don't worry, no Everybody falls, cries and caterwauls But I say don't worry, no Everybody hurts Unite the universe It don't work to worry, no When you're down and low When the day is blue When your heart has gone too deep

Love Is The Thing (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) Pick me up or put me down or hug or let me be Any way you want to go will be all right with me Tell me what I need to know or who you want to be Speak the truth and tell no lies - remember this decree Love is, love is, love is the thing Even if it's not the cure it's better to believe Think about someone you love Imagine them to be all alone without a one to comfort When they need you to hold them in your arms To tell them all will be better now when two are one Remember this decree Love is, love is, love is the thing Even if it's not the cure it's better to believe When I'm wrong I'll say I'm wrong When you're wrong say you're wrong When I crumble come to me When you stumble I will be the one to catch you falling Love is, love is, love is the thing Even if it's not the cure it's better to believe

Take Me Down, Wind (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) Take me down, wind Take me down Take my hand then I'll resound Harmony and pain - we are just the same Darkness needs the light - come be mine tonight Take me down, wind Take me down Take my hand then I'll resound And the road has washed away again Time to rise to higher ground Here's a chance for we to both ascend Please don't turn around Take me down, wind Take me down Take my hand then I'll resound

Let Me Cry You A River (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) Over there in the corner where you sit Nobody calls - nobody cares Over there in the corner in your gloom I will not keep in your despair Over there in your somber in the dark I see a girl who lied to me Over there in the dark inside your room beside a bed not meant for me Let me cry you a river until we drown together The tears will fall forever now Let me cry you a river into a flood together Our tears will fall forever now Over there is a mourner who I know Maybe I should - maybe I won't Over there in her corner left to cry without a friend without a guy Let me cry you a river until we drown together The tears will fall forever now Let me cry you a river into a flood together Our tears will fall forever now Alone to think without a friend woe, woe, woe, woe Alone to think until the end woe, woe, woe Where you sit Let me cry you a river until we drown together The tears will fall forever now Let me cry you a river into a flood together Our tears will fall forever now Let me cry! Let me cry! Let me cry you a river Let me cry you a river until we drown together The tears will fall forever now

about

*FOR SONG DETAILS, click on the title of each track*

My concept for the LOVE IN LAURELTIDE GREEN album was a simple - and - borrowed one. Each song represented a fictitious resident living in a make-believe town.

The process by and of itself was:

A) To first sequence chords and compose melodies.

B) To author lyrics by inventing situational plans of action. There were no strict precepts, as certain lyrics were fictive recipes while others loosely mimicked real people. The only thread was that all of those conceptualized folks shared the same burg. In the end, I still had to strive that each piece - outside of my thematic intention - stood in its own right for a general mass of people to enjoy as a proper song.

C) To sound-capture the compositions. Songs were recorded in the order in which they were written, without any calculated lineup or story lines.

D) To - much later - detail idiosyncratic, individual descriptions to evolve those characters. I, and ex-journalist-extraordinaire Mark Keating, put together our noggins to construct nuances for my album's dramatis personae.

Much of the talk in Laureltide Green is heard in addled whispers by way of fair-weather back-fence prattle. Despite the town's enchanting name, a sour grapevine droops withered and low like a noose around its gardens and walkways.

Wild local gossip from times past include the demerit about the Juvenile Court Judge who received kick-backs from a private company that built the new Laureltide Green youth detention
center.

Another chronicles Audit Committee Chairman Frederick Enfield - implicated in a series of corruption scandals in a scheme to cheat Laureltide Green's social insurance program - who, like his younger brother, was sentenced to time behind bars.

And, who can forget about the Volunteer Fireman's girlfriend caught assisting in an in illegal dog-breeding operation on a farm in a remote location? Colorful applications of transgression.

Dysfunction hangs gently in the perfumed air of Laureltide Green.

However, there is also love in this town - lost, found and desired - true, blue and distorted.

For some, it's the place to be. For others, it's a place to hide. For many, it's just a place.

Each song represents a town resident.

Come meet a few of the Laureltide Green Community!

REVIEWS:

Mazzarella still has some of the best Lennon-inspired chops in the power pop community, and he shines on Love In Laureltide Green. All fifteen tracks will delight pop fans, but jangleholics will be most pleased by the chiming guitars on INTO THE Rain, TAKE ME DOWN, WIND and SEND MY LOVE TO ANYONE WHO NEEDS IT. Long may you run, Sir Michael!

Both with his band the Rooks and as a solo artist, Michael Mazzarella has crafted some of the most enduring pop songs of the past 20 years. Love in Laureltide Green is another in a string of masterful releases, with tunes such as the achingly lovely SEARCHING FOR HEATHER DEAN and the Rubber Soul-influenced WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH LOVE? standing out.
- John M. Borack/Goldmine Magazine

A hook-laden delight. And a pop masterpiece on a par with Imperial Bedroom and East Side Story. This album grabs you immediately and never lets go. That Michael suffers from the disease of "cultitis" simply discloses once again the downside of the niche-driven structure of the current music biz. If more had an opportunity to hear such wonderful melodies, Michael would finally get the recognition he so richly deserves after 20 years of songwriting.

It's all here. Jangle pop, chamber pop, touches of pop psychedelia and homages to mid-'60's bands as diverse as The Premiers (slyly acknowledged in the opener WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH LOVE), the mid-period Kinks, The Gene Clark-era of The Byrds and of course, The Beatles.

You will be pleasantly amazed at this song cycle. It will put a spring in your step.

He's baaack!
Our favorite Rook returns with a brand new one that's (typically) another jangly, hook-filled, story-telling gem. As usual, Michael's songwriting is top-notch. He pretty much plays most of the instruments on the record, and gets some vocal assistance from singer Gail George on a handful of songs. The result is another solid effort that's another solid addition to an already impressive body of work! GREAT!!!
