Didn't Every Day? (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) Didn't every day seem like forever? Didn't every night that came along Bring about another new endeavor Just before the time it all went wrong? Should have taken time to walk the ground Should have taken time for what we found Didn't every week go by much faster? Didn't all the time we thought was ours Disappear at once and fall together? And before you knew it here we are Should have taken time to walk the ground Should have taken time for what we found Roll on, roll on We should have taken time But now it's gone Didn't all the years we took to get it Didn't all the times we used to cry Teach us how to finally admit it? That we never will be satisfied Roll on, roll on We should have taken time But now it's gone Didn't all the years we took to get it Didn't all the times we used to cry Teach us how to finally admit it? That we never will be satisfied Roll on, roll on (Roll on my lover) Didn't all the days we thought were better Get us to the place where we belong?
3.
Flowers, Towers And Waves (Words and music by Michael Mazzarella) We won by landslide The topside was thrilling The high tide was shifting and drifting Hey, hey We won the lottery The pottery grew flowers We lived in towers to look at the boors We failed to share things With that brings a bearing of karma resisting the light to endure We failed to share things With that brings a bearing of karma resisting the light to endure the waves to the shore We stopped believing in dreaming Believing our worries were over Eau de vie Hey, hey
4.
May Call Me Maybe (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) For all the times she warned me I never took the warning And all the time I've waited I've wasted time But I can't think about it I hope she does I feel a stranger to her I feel a sad inside me She never talks about us I am her was And so I keep on going My hope forever growing She may call me, she may call me She may call me, maybe She may call me, she may call me She may call me, maybe To all the girls who call me Well, they mean nothing to me I wonder if she knows it I doubt she does But still I keep on going My hope forever growing She may call me, she may call me She may call me, maybe She may call me, she may call me She may call me, maybe Let's stop this now Let's stop this now The hurt inside my heart is keeping here somehow She may call me, she may call me She may call me baby She may call me, she may call me She may call me baby She may call me, she may call me She may call me baby She may call me, she may call me She may call me baby She may call me, maybe She may call me baby
5.
Wake Me 02:34
Wake Me (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) Wake me when you go, I'll start the day I will walk in peace you on your way Fill the glass with wine and other things Don't you worry so, I've no place to go While you're out today, I'll get by some way I will find a way Leave me, when you go to start your day You can walk in peace and on your way
6.
Should I Rise? (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) Should I rise? Wake up, wake up What good for me can waking be? So let me be alone to sleep Wake up, wake up Should I rise? Wake up, wake up
7.
Wave Goodbye 03:08
Wave Goodbye (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) Wave goodbye to me Kiss the ground you see Take a step to go It's that time I know If the day is right, wave goodbye all right Take a sound you know- like the radio Find a song for me Wave Don't forget my face I'll remember And, I won't be there to see you cry
8.
As We Go 04:15
As We Go (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) Ever wonder when things will come to be? With everything all right Or is this a dream? I don't try to think about it It can never be I once knew a girl She never had a dime She was never down Never had to fight But she needed many lovers just to get her by Then she lost the only love who ever gave her time You have to pay as you go Pay as you go In a younger time I did lie and cheat But as I went by I have come to see Nothing other really matters Except your legacy You have to pay as you go Pay as you go In my quiet time and ahead of me Are the moments that will tell me Where I need to be I better make a quick decision Of the road I better be on When the final light goes out And in my darkness I shall be I have to pay as I go Pay as I go
9.
With Love? 02:00
With Love? (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) Spinning wheels on butterflies Broken clocks move counter wise Poppy weed and jezebels clutter up the wishing well You can fight with love You can fight with love Falling hearts to symbolize every day in every life Nowhere dreams and valley lows Tell me where our gladness goes Can we win with love? Can we win with love? Are these trigger-happy crimes just the newest paradigm?
10.
My Mind, Your Mind (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) My mind it has cast away I'll repeat today sins of yesterday and relive my crime Anywhere I find I need to go You had to know Your mind, it is on the climb looking to the far reaches of the sky But, you had to go I had to know Tell me why I didn't know I'm standing in the river You won't go near the water The tide is rolling faster My mind recollects your name Do you do the same? I can take the blame for what's on your mind You feeling kind? I have to know to ease my soul
11.
You I (You, Why?) (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) You I, you I You why, why, why? You, why you? Why you? Don't know what you told me Don't know what you said You I, you I You why, why, why? You, why you? Why you?
12.
Home 02:28
Home (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) Oh we are - we are - we are - we are We are home Oh we are - we are - we are - we are We are home No lies, goodbyes - no No cries nearby - no Oh we are - we are - we are - we are We are home Woe, woe, woe, woe
13.
She's 02:28
She's (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) She's the one who laughed the best with a smile upon request Now the smile has gone, now the smile has gone She's the one her voice would sing anytime to anything Now the song is gone, now the sound is gone Even now, even now I'm falling out, falling out
14.
Sunny Moon 03:07
Sunny Moon (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) There's a letter I've a letter from Sunny Moon She's together what I gather from Sunny Moon But it's not her style, if we reconcile To admit a thing - especially to me There's a picture I've a picture of Sunny Moon She was younger but much wiser was my Sunny Moon But she caught the wind And was determined to see the world And I wonder where she is 'Cause her letter never said Ghosts to travel Ghosts unravel girls like Sunny Moon Haunt the places across the faces of the picaroon But it's not her way She would never say what she did was wrong
15.
We 04:11
We (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) We laugh, we cry We strive to get by We learn to live with hurt invective We're only trying now, it's hard We're only trying We're black and white, we're blue and uptight We fight to die over the belief of pie in the sky I'm only trying now, it's hard I'm only trying We talk and shout And banter about the things we know and every other farrago We close our eyes hoping for some kind of surprise We throw the blame We praise ourselves yearning acclaim We go to pray Washing away sins on Sunday We fight to die over the belief of pie in the sky
16.
Away The Danger Down (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) Aboard, aboard aboard! Away the danger down, away the danger down The brightness of the day The darkness upon yesterday Away the darkness down Away the raven flies Away and you will see the brightness of the day The darkness upon yesterday - away the darkness down (Stand across the world) Stand among your closest friends and be hand in hand and find out suddenly Everything you thought had gone missing was only a touch away (Make a stand for me) Away the sorry days Bring on the holidays The mission for today will be to forget yesterday Away the danger down Aboard, aboard aboard! Aboard, aboard aboard! Away the danger down
17.
And & And & Ampersand (Words & music by Michael Mazzarella) Don't let the moon tell you it's dark outside Don't let the sun tell you it's day And when the rain is falling You can pretend it's throwing tears of joy Enough to fill a pool for you to play And & and & ampersand There will always be an and To go along with yes and no And & and & ampersand There will always be a yes and no A high and low Black and white And day and night And to and fro And dark and light And fast and slow And & and & ampersand There will always be an and To be with he and she And bird and bee And you and me

about

*FOR SONG DETAILS, click on the title of each track*

For the SODA POP GRAMOPHONE album, my ambition was to frame - in songs - snapshots of a notional individual from boyhood to eldership. As the story was not arranged in any order of time, I hoped that each listener would follow my fragmented map and recognize the non-sequential pieces to my manchild's larger puzzle.

The essential elements are in there. Some of his noteworthy achievements, imprudent estimations, affair-of-the-heart hesitancies and profound revelations are confirmed. Above all, his final epiphany is that an Almighty - in a contest of strength - truly does outrival those half-toned shadows that cross into the Dark Side.

***************************************************************
Contraries. Opposites. Duality.

Shared relationships viewed from different perspectives. Scenes with two meanings. Tears of joy or sorrow. Antithetical thoughts. Decision and indecision. Reasons to be and not to be. A smile and a frown. Yes and no and yin and yang. So are the songs from the Soda Pop Gramophone.

Here is the journey of a man and a boy.

Or is it about a boy and a man?

It doesn’t matter. He’s the same person any diametrical way you look at it.

As a child he saw through the eyes of a man.

As a man he often behaved like a child.

He’s kept with infamous demons

and prayed with unknown saints.

A boy was lost and a man was found.

And his story plays from the Soda Pop Gramophone
