about

TRIP was written in the back of a van. I was - without head pain - hung over. All I wanted for a while was to be left alone. But in a tour van, that's a pipe dream.

The night before was a blowout. The poison was beer. My security guard was a guy (some of) The Rooks called manager. The make-up paint was lipstick, ink, markers and God knows what.

My anesthetized face was a blank canvas and the young Picassos were The Mockers. If you don't already know, look them up. You'll find cool music.

P.S.

White lines and hurricanes
I hope the rain won't hold me up again

Back in the Mock Brigade
The lemonade was stronger than the wine

My original home demo included a final verse which was also recorded for the album take. For all that, I decided to edit out the extra details knowing the song would otherwise go beyond an immoderate six minutes.

The white lines had nothing to do with narcotics and spoke only of a thoroughfare pointed north. The Rooks raced out of a volatile Virginia Beach climate attempting to keep four speeding wheels ahead of an any-minute-now hurricane.

Los Mock(ers) brigade was where all those somatic crimes were committed and the lemonade was probably some beckoning God-awful, head-splitting concoction - which on that occasion - tasted sacchariferous and too irresistible. Combined with beer - lights out!!!

In the studio, fellow Rooks Pinell and Yourell - along with Smithereen Mike Mesaros - helped to make TRIP a tranquilly-temperamental destination spot.

lyrics

TRIP
(Words & music by Michael Mazzarella)

Here in this nonchalance - this long departure I am lost again
I try to meditate - I hesitate there's someone here again

If you search for long enough you'll get to where I've already been
If you search for long enough you'll get to where I've already been

Poison and make-up paint - they could not wait to wake me up again
I was protected by another eye until he turned it in

If you search for long enough you'll get to where I've already been
If you search for long enough you'll get to where I've already been
