Essentially, this song characterized two relationships. The first involvement had the word "expired" metaphorically stamped across its forehead. And the other appeared just before the ashes of my connection with sweetheart number one were finally windblown. The every-weekend watering hole was Hartford's Civic Pub. And in grim reality, the song's potential bone breaker was out doing her thing while I was off doing mine.

As an incentive toward stardom, I (incorrectly) played some chord changes to an iconic ballad - to try and jump-start an idea. When I then sped up the tempo and hummed a melody, something came to life.

Ultimately, parts of WHEN I SEE YOU LOOKING MY WAY ended up sounding like another (not the ballad) song. Huh. Who heard that coming? A no-no for any songwriter! I was horrified when I finally realized my absent-minded negligence. But to date, no lawsuits.
